Silicone rubber compounds have much greater resistance to high temperatures and are available and presently being used in applications of an extremely severe nature.
Thermal Wire and Cable's Sil-V silicone rubber is very resistant to extremely low temperatures. The brittle point of the compound used is typically below -150°C (-238°F). When heated beyond the maximum serviceable temperature rating or if burned, Sil-V silicone rubbers leaves a non-conductive silicone dioxide ash which is an excellent dielectric that permits continued operation of the cable for an indefinite period if left undisturbed. This flame resistance is greatly enhanced if the primary wires and jacket are augmented with a treated glass braid. The cost per 1000 ft is less than Flouropolymer insulated and jacketed cables.
Thermal Wire and Cable's Sil-V insulated cable's resistance to chemicals is excellent and a table is available to determine useful life in oils, bases, hydraulic fluids and solvents. For reduced diameter applications consider the use of REP Teflon on single wires. 600V silicone rubber requires 3x insulation level.
Thermal Wire and Cable Sil-V insulated cables produce very little smoke when burned. As a primary insulation, Sil-V silicone rubber has superior dielectric properties, is abrasion resistant (when augmented with a glass or K-fiber braid on singles and jacket), is fire resistant, resistant to weathering, fungus, and has excellent electrical characteristics. Its flexible nature provides for easy, economical installations and long service life in extreme flexing applications). Fully pigmented jacket is available in colors standard color is black).
Stainless Steel wire armor also available. 300 Volt optional. Available in 20 AWG – 4AWG. Shielded and unshielded pairs, triads, etc. Multi conductor cables to 40 conductor available.
